Worlds Left Behind

by New Haunts

RLovers Music This is an astonishing debut! Alice Sheridan from New Haunts is the most representative figure of new gothic contemporary. Same level of Joy Division, The Cure or Interpol but an enigmatic and ethereal female voice as a frontman. Favorite track: Ingrained.

waughtron666 There is a lot I could say about this album, but most of that has already been covered by previous comments. Suffice it to say, my three year old daughter and I both became instant converts the very first time I played it in the car. Beautiful, haunting stuff! Favorite track: Ice.
Christian Schaefer

Christian Schaefer Featured this album on the forty fifth issue of RULE of THREE (bit.ly/RULEofTHREEbc). That monster of a synth bass line instantly grabs you and drags you to the stake while tribal drums put you in a trance. “Waves” by New Haunts doesn't take any prisoners but puts you in the midst of an electronic fire ritual. Above you the high priestess calls for the gods to accept your sacrifice with the most intense vocals. Burn me in your flames! Favorite track: Waves.
Jarretr
Jarretr thumbnail
Jarretr This is one of the most stunning debut albums I've ever heard. Alice's soaring voice and cold, melodic compositions are a sheer force. Get this album. Favorite track: Hymns.
illusori
illusori thumbnail
illusori Melodic, melancholic, and driven post-punk. Worlds Left Behind is a feast of sparse beats, experimental sounds and an arching voice powering through.

For a debut album it has a breadth of tone and style that showcases a talent with only more to come. Favorite track: Same Medicine.
mystery babylon
mystery babylon thumbnail
mystery babylon I generally keep a pretty close ear to the ground when it comes to darkwave, but this took me by surprise and came out of nowhere with a great first album! arty indie darkwave in the Zola Jesus/Tropic Of Cancer vein, but with it's own unique personality. stands easily alongside the best of the genre. Favorite track: Waves.

Ingrained 04:00
The other end of a line happening somewhere else I never know how your new days are spent Do they drag themselves by like you always said? Or blossom out of the dark to a place we can share? When I was wounded I wrote it down And spat it out at a faceless crowd And I read it now and I need Something I don't understand Traceless But when I walked in the sun on Crow Lane I heard you tapping out my name And a flutter of dusty wings hiding again You're here ingrained Constant, but that I can put away I don't need it with me every day Difficulties that come with us Part and parcel, enough was enough When I was broken I fell right down You put me there and showed me how I can't believe it now but I can see This is different somehow Traceless But when I walked in the sun on Crow Lane I heard you tapping out my name And a flutter of dusty wings hiding again You're here ingrained

Reactions don't range too much I think they want to know when I'll stop Trying to notice other people And only you've got the answer to that Am I just seeing what I want to Or is it really this clear cut? It's just that I've been somewhere like this before Took long enough for that kicking to stop Take the words from the tip of my tongue They flowed to me like rivulets once Turn them into whatever you want You have free rein if I have your response Open landscape so I can't hide So far over how I've lost that thin line I think we fell into the start of something I'm not just letting it go Cross over to where we can watch it unfold I want to revel in the moment for as long as I can hold on Take the words from the tip of my tongue They flowed to me like rivulets once Turn them into whatever you want You have free rein if I have your response

Left Me Cold 04:01
Counting the time as I counted the miles Run down the road just to feel alive Said that I loved things that I didn't like And left me cold Didn't know what called me Just know it wasn't you Left me cold Left me blue It's just nothing A bleak scene met my eyes Blissful burning on a made-up pyre Burns our ashen smiles And left me cold Didn't know what called me Just know it wasn't you Left me cold Left me blue It's just nothing
4.
Hymns 03:51
Clear ink and the list piles up It's gently cruel when we wake up Hoping we'd got better overnight Samples on my free hand Godfear we've seen the light Strangers seem beautiful when the music is good When I can hear nothing else Their hymns pull me in and I feel understood And I can sing along out loud But that's nothing holy to me And while you're nowhere near devout You're a godless saint to me And I can feel it now Tied to you I need flames to burn That's all I wanted all along Hoping we'd got pretty oversight In control, forced to evolve God knows what I could find Strangers seem beautiful when the music is good When I can hear nothing else Their hymns pull me in and I feel understood And I can sing along out loud But that's nothing holy to me And while you're nowhere near devout You're a godless saint to me And I can feel it now

New Haunts 03:23
The lights brightly beating hearts The noises in your head Everyone a stranger Anyone a friend The clouds wash black the sky Black and black blue The ground tremors You feel it through you Never again is the rule Not in your lifetime will it break We can go nearby but never inside Not in your lifetime will that break And you can feel it Don't even know it yet But you feel it You'll never be that way again I will not look at the corpse too long I drag myself away from where it lays Won't be drawn into living that old death 'Cause that is all there is to do and there it will stay A new breeze breathes through here Rustling those new leaves Bring me ignorance of these things Something I can build upon, unfamiliarity
6.
Waves 02:58
City across the water Falls down on me in waves And everywhere everywhere glows Lights pushing through the rain Wrap me up in water Burn me in your flames Cross the city to see me Reflect me in the rain Droplets collect and I forget The sound and feel of you But this is only ever a chapter Another one that's new Wash me in the water Gathered in your grasp Falling through your fingers Nothing you can catch I walked on the wet streets And I floated in the mist I breathed in the rain clouds I can always count on this Wrap me up in water Burn me in your flames Cross the city to see me Reflect me in the rain Droplets collect and I forget The sound and feel of you But this is only ever a chapter Another one that's new Wash me in the water Gathered in your grasp Falling through your fingers Nothing you can catch

Rocking that boat could drown you So watching from the shore And dancing to the same song Birthed this thing and tried to raise the corpse And we are on the same medicine Over and underdone You've found yourself just walking past me On the way to my old home Cutting and sticking and living the dream Cut around you and in between Saved it forever on my scrapbook page Kept it to look at another day And we are on the same medicine Over and underdone You've found yourself just walking past me On the way to my old home And under the clutter I unearthed Days' and weeks' and months' worth I lived in it, I breathed it in Only got better until it got worse Underneath the last stubborn scraps I found it under a driftwood raft Barely afloat on a shin-deep tide Battered and gnarled but still alive And we are on the same medicine Over and underdone You've found yourself just walking past me On the way to my old home
8.
I can see you hide Only coming out when someone dies You say you're taking care But what if you die in there Day out to his funeral You stay in your static womb until You feel safe out here You're not safe out here Hack bits off, but it's okay it's all done in a controlled way So clean, so clinical The damage done is only minimal This is not your solution No matter how perfect the execution I can't keep this We can patch up your clothes, patch up your skin Patch up that shell where you clambered back in Found a place to hide like a creature to die Burn away the dirt, burn away the life Burning flesh I shouldn't know How you clean your knife Hack bits off, but it's okay it's all done in a controlled way So clean, so clinical The damage done is only minimal This is not your solution No matter how perfect the execution I can't keep this
9.
Ice 06:58
A shadow passes over your sun and it's me Driving through the dark The night dreams us up And the breeze is like a summer day And we've wound the windows down Just 'cause we like it that way And I can feel the distance This doesn't keep on ice Tearing into it all It's straight up damage And I give it my all As far as I can As far as I know And it's still kept cool Hard concrete truths Glimmer with intrigue Treasure laden I can feel a heartbeat Take me anywhere Clutching my surroundings The inanimate, the dead Everything here lives And if I wake with a start Clutching something unreal Something I can't make out Something I cannot see And there isn't time To peer through you To adjust my eyes To get us through And back inside a real world I live, love and lose In much the same way But the dream is bruised It's cold detrition Racing tolerably through Muted spikes and ditches With the feeling cured And if I wake with a start Clutching something unreal Something I can't make out Something I cannot see And there isn't time To peer through you To adjust my eyes To get us through
